He never played any first-class cricket. Ramesh Kumar, 23, of Jalalabad, Punjab, was picked up at a base price of Rs 20 lakh by the KKR camp on the auction table. Ramesh registered himself as a batsman in the IPL auction. But not batting, his main strength is bowling. Left-arm spinners can turn the ball in either direction. He is quite famous on the internet as Narin of Jalalabad. Because Ramesh himself says he has a lot in common with Caribbean mystery spinner Narine in his bowling action.

He grew up playing tennis ball cricket. However, Ramesh has taken a different name for hitting sixes in the local cricket circuit. If you search ‘Narin Jalalabad’ on YouTube, you will find multiple videos. On YouTube, you can see him hitting five sixes in one over. The fame of making 50 off ten balls will appear on the YouTube screen.

How did Ramesh Kumar start his cricket?

Ramesh started his cricket career just like an average boy in the small town of India. He started his cricket with the tennis ball. However, Ramesh made a name for himself in the local cricket world in a very short period due to his equal skills in batting and ball. Ramesh gets called only when there is an invitational tournament in the local area.
Not a full-fledged cricketer, but Ramesh joins any other job. That was the wish of the family.

After playing tennis with so much confidence, his friends advised him to practice with the cricket ball. Despite not having the traditional training, he continues to perform well with the cricket ball in one after another match. In the end, Ramesh also performed well in district-level cricket in Moga. He proved himself to be one of the best bowlers of the tournament.

He was called up to the Punjab State Cricket Camp last year after his good performance in district-level cricket. In that camp, Ramesh meets Gurkirat Singh Mann. Gurkirat played three ODIs for the national team in 2016. Ramesh told Mann about his financial situation.

KKR pick up Ramesh Kumar

Mann assured Ramesh that he will help him. Mann eventually arranged to play for Minerva Cricket Academy in the JP Atre Trophy. In the first match of the tournament, Ramesh took five wickets for 35 runs in nine overs. In the second match, Ramesh took four wickets for 32 runs in eight overs.

Gurkirat Mann sent the footage of that match to KKR assistant coach Abhishek Nayar. Then Ramesh got a call from KKR for the trial. After watching his batting and bowling there, Knight management decided to buy him at the auction.

And after getting the dream opportunity at the KKR camp, Ramesh Kumar said, “The auction has changed my whole career. IPL has brought me into a big platform. Never played first-class cricket before. I hope this time I will get a chance to play Ranji too. The real goal, of course, is to play in the Team India jersey. And nothing was possible except God’s blessing and without the help of Gurkirat Paji.”
