Earlier in this league which came in 2008, RCB was known as Royal Challengers Bangalore. Effective November 1, 2014, the Karnataka government renamed the city from Bangalore to Bangaluru. This was done by keeping in touch with the local language. Since then, cricket fans have been suggesting the franchise to change its name. But they didn’t make this change till the 16th season of IPL and now finally they have agreed to this change. So now the name of the franchise is Royal Challengers Bangaluru.

Earlier, three years ago, the franchise known as Kings XI Punjab changed its name to Punjab Kings (PBKS). Delhi changed its old name Delhi Daredevils to Delhi Capitals (DC). The decision was taken after JSW’s investment in the team increased. Earlier too, the team Rising Pune Supergiants, which is no longer part of this league, dropped the last letter S from its name. This was the team’s second and last season in this league.

Tuesday was a special day for this franchise. To mark the occasion, the group launched a new song, Jersey. A special event was organized on this day. Along with this, the Royal Challengers Bangalore Women (RCBW) team, who recently won the Women’s Premier League (WPL) title, was also welcomed. At this time, the players of the men’s team also gave a ‘guard of honour’ to the women’s team. Led by Smriti Mandhana, the team won the title for the first time in IPL.
