India in T20 World Cup :

The first-ever champion of the ICC men’s T20 world cup in 2007, India holds the second position in this list. India the winner of the 2007 T20 championship, had a poor show in the next three world cups (2009, 2010, 2012). In the 2014 edition at Bangladesh, India qualifies for the final. But loses to Sri Lanka. In 2016 at home soil, India started their world cup journey with lots of hope. But they lose the semi-final against West Indies.

India played a total of 33 matches in all T20 world cup matches. They won in 20 and lost 11 in the record book. India had one tie match against Pakistan in 2007. With a 64.06 winning percentage, India is just behind Sri Lanka. They hold the second position on the list.

Pakistan in T20 World Cup:

Pakistan is in the third position on this list. They had a decent show in the shorter format of the cricket. Pakistan is the runner-up in the 2007 edition. They lost the final to the arch-rival India. But Pakistan became champion in the 2009 world cup in England. In 2010 and 2012, both the time Pakistan played up to the semi-final. But in the last two world cups, organized in Asia, Pakistan played only up to the semi-final.

Let’s know about the records. Pakistan played a total of 34 matches. They won in 19 and lost in 14 matches. Pakistan had one tie against India in the 2007 world cup. Their winning percentage is 57.35.

South Africa in T20 World Cup:

Like other ICC tournaments, South Africa’s performance in the T20 world cup is also very satisfying. But they have not qualified for the finals in any edition. Their best performance was in the 2009 and 2014 editions. Both the time South Africa qualified in the semi-finals and was defeated. In 2007, the competition was held on their home soil. But South Africa finished their journey in round 2 only.

South Africa played 30 matches altogether. They won in 18 and lost in 12. Their winning percentage is 60.00. That is quite impressive.

West Indies in T20 World Cup:

The players from West Indies are dominating in all the T20 tournaments playing around the world. And that’s reflected in the ICC tournaments also. West Indies won the ICC men’s world T20 twice. In 2012 they beat the host Sri Lanka in the final. And the 2016 world cup, they beat England at the historic Eden Gardens. Apart from that, West Indies played semi-final twice(2009, 2014). But in the 2007 edition in South Africa, West Indies did not qualified for the second round. They go out on the group stage. In franchise base T20 tournaments, like IPL, Australian players are highly paid. But in the ICC men’s T20world cup, Australia has not touched the champion trophy yet.

Their best performance was in 2010. When Australia reached the final but lost to England. They have played semi-finals twice(2007, 2012). In 2009, Australia did not even qualify for the second round. But in 2014 and 2016, they played only to the second round. Australia played 29 matches in all six world cups,  won 16, and lost in 13 games. Their winning percentage is 55.17. These records are not like Australians at all.

England in T20 World Cup:

Though England won the 2019 ICC ODI world cup and the 2010 ICC men’s T20 world cup, their records are not good in ICC tournaments. In 2007, 2009, 2012, and 2014 England had played only up to either super eight or super ten. But England became champion in 2010, after defeating Australia in the final.

It was the individual performance of Kevin Pietersen to win the 2010 T20 championship. Pietersen smashed a crucial 42 not out from 26 balls in the semi-final against Sri Lanka, leading England to a 7-wicket victory and a place in their first ICC competition final since the 2004 ICC Champions Trophy. He scored 47 runs from 31 balls in the final against Australia, including four fours and one six.  Pietersen shared a crucial 111-run stand with Kieswetter. Pietersen’s innings were instrumental in England’s 7-wicket win, their first in a major ICC tournament. England had another movement of glory in the ICC tournaments. In 2016 they played final but finished runner up.

England played 32 matches in all the T20 world cup. They won 15 and lost 16, one match was without result. Their winning percentage is 48.38.

New Zealand in T20 World Cup:

New Zealanders are count as a strong team in T20 format. But their performance in ICC T20 tournaments is not impressive at all. Although New Zealand produced so many world-class T20 cricketers. New Zealand has played up to the semi-final twice. In the 2007 and 2016 world cup, the black caps played the semi-final. Except for these two editions, they played either up to Super 8s or Super 10s only.

New Zealand played a total of 30 T20 matches in all world cup. They won 15 and lost in 13 matches. The Black Caps played two tie matches in the world T20. One was against Sri Lanka and the second one was against West Indies. Their winning percentage is 53.33 in the ICC World T20.

Afghanistan in T20 World Cup:

Afghanistan is new in world cricket. Despite all kinds of odd’s, they are constantly proving their cricketing skills. Rashid Khan, Mohammad Nabi is already established name in world cricket. They are playing league cricket all around the world. There are so many exciting Afghan cricketers also. First time Afghanistan qualify for the ICC men’s T20 world cup in 2010. From then, they played all four shorter format world cup.

In 2016 Afghanistan played their best in the world cup. The world cup was played in India, and the Afghans qualify for the second round. Still, they have played 14 matches in the world T20. Afghanistan won in five and lost nine. Their winning percentage is 35.71 in the ICC World T20.

Bangladesh in T20 World Cup:

Bangladesh is in the last position in the top ten list. In ICC men’s T20 world cup, the numbers are going against Bangladesh. They have played all six world cup. But as a team, Bangladesh never looks strong enough. Although, they have an all-rounder like Shakib Al Hasan, who is a world-class performer. Then there is Mustafizur Rahman, Tamim Iqbal. But Bangladesh never fulfils the expectations. There are individual glories, like Tamim Iqbal’s century in the 2016 T20 world championship.

Bangladesh played up to round two in 2007, 2014, and 2016. Bangladesh played 25 matches in this format world cup. They won in just five matches and lost 19. One match was ended without result. Their winning percentage is 20.83 in the ICC World T20 only.
